During an interview for the release of the latest X-Men movie, producer Simon Kinberg confirmed that the next X-Men movie to follow X-Men: Apocalypse will be set in the 1990s.
“The next one is set in the ’90s,” said Kinberg.
This will follow the pattern that the franchise has been following recently since X-Men: First Class took place in the 1960s, X-Men: Days of Future Past took place during the 1970s, and X-Men: Apocalypse taking place in the 1980s.
It’s also not entirely clear what exactly Kinberg meant by “the next one.” He could either be referencing the next core X-Men movie, or he could be referencing one of the possible upcoming spinoff movies supposedly in development like the New Mutants, Gambit, X-Force, or any other X-Men related movie.
X-Men: Apocalypse opens in theaters on May 27, 2016.
