After Tom Holland’s Spider-Man debuts in Captain America: Civil War, he’ll be getting a standalone film of his own in 2017. To prepare for the upcoming reboot, Sony has started registering several website domains in order to narrow down some possible titles for the new Spider-Man film.
Ain’t It Cool News reports that Sony has registered the domains SpiderManHomecomingTheMovie.com, SpiderManComingOfAgeMovie.com, SpiderManGreatnessAwaitsMovie.com, and SpiderManSuspendedMovie.com. These domains suggest that the new film could be titled Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Coming of Age, Spider-Man: Greatness Awaits, or Spider-Man: Suspended. All of these titles seem to suit the younger high school bound version of Spider-Man that Marvel and Sony are working on now.
Registering multiple domains like this suggests that Sony hasn’t actually decided on a title for the new movie yet, but are currently building up a shortlist before making their final decision. It’s not all that unusual for a studio to register multiple possible titles for a project just to make sure that nobody else takes the relevant URL.
It should also be noted that Sony is also working on an animated Spider-Man movie as well which means that any or all of these titles may be related to that project as well.
In the end, Sony will either choose one of these domains for the title of the live-action movie, one possibly for the animated movie, or they will instead use none of these domains and they will just end up naming the film something else instead.
Captain America: Civil War will release on May 6, 2016 and the new Spider-Man reboot film is scheduled to launch on July 7, 2017.
