It appears that Warner Bros is adding another project to their constantly growing list of DC movies.
TheWrap reports Jason Fuchs, the screenwriter of the upcoming Wonder Woman movie starring Gal Gadot, has been tasked with writing a new script from scratch about DC’s Main Man Lobo.
Warner Bros began developing a Lobo movie back in 2009, with Guy Ritchie originally attached to direct but updates on the film have gone dark over the years until today. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was in talks to play the intergalactic bounty hunter at one point, although he eventually moved from the project to play Black Adam in a planned Shazam movie. Danny Trejo recently tweeted his interest in playing Lobo, although there were no confirmed reports that Warner Bros ever approached him to play the character.
In the DC Universe, Lobo started off as a villain but soon became a fan-favorite antihero/bounty hunter whose hulking, massive biker look, ultraviolent tendencies, and colorful catchphrases became his signature calling cards. In the New 52’s version of Lobo, the hulking biker had been replaced by a toned down version of the character who has not been as well received as his pervious iteration by the fans.
It’s possible that the decision to move forward with this project again could have been influenced by the success of Deadpool if the studio plans to make the Lobo movie R as well. At the moment it is unknown when the set release date for the movie would be, who would play Lobo, which version of Lobo would be used, or if this movie will actually get made or fall back into development hell once again.
